Before a step in the right direction.

Technology is here to move us forward, make certain tasks easier, and enable us to do more.  Before taking that next step, where are we going?

““Begin with the end in mind” is based on the principle that all things are created twice. There’s a mental or first creation, and a physical or second creation to all things.” ~ Stephen R. Covey from “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”

Before, planning a journey, taking the first steps, or even contemplating action there are two points of data that we must have.  Where are we now, and where do we want to be.

We all know this.  We couldn’t have gotten this far without knowing it.  (Far = past kindergarten)  We’ve been on many journeys and the ones we are most proud of, were the most difficult.  We know the journey tested our metal, took us out of our comfort zone, and now it’s the journey we dread and fear.

“Running around like a chicken with his head cut off.”  I’m not sure who said this first, but as a child remember my grandmother saying it, as well is demonstrating it.  Yes, a chicken does run around with its head cut off.  Either we pick where we want to be or we let someone else pick it for us.  That chicken had no idea where it was going, but its destiny was ever so certain. I graduated from kindergarten the next year.

Like it or not, we are on a journey and as long as we have freedom to influence and ability to pursue our desired destination we are truly fortunate.
